Thresholds and fixed-panel support

The supplied material also highlights two practical points that are often overlooked: some openings benefit from an aluminum threshold, and fixed panels should be mechanically supported.

Thresholds

If a curb or floor condition is too flat, outsloping, or otherwise likely to let water pass under the door, a threshold can act as a small dam and improve water control. Thresholds must still be coordinated with bottom wipes and the intended swing path.

Fixed-panel support

In the interest of safety, fixed panels should not be treated as if silicone alone makes them structural. Use the correct U-channel, clamps, header or support hardware for the selected design. The support method affects deductions, stability and the long-term performance of the enclosure.

Design takeaway

When in doubt, choose a support strategy that is mechanically clear and easy to maintain instead of relying on a marginal condition that only looks cleaner on paper.
