Fabrication planning overview

Fabrication begins after the design and hardware have been selected. At that point the quality of the enclosure depends on measurement discipline, accurate deductions, and careful coordination of holes, cutouts and clearances.

Fabrication focuses on

  • Accurate finished measurements
  • Correct use of center-line methods and imaginary reference lines
  • Applying the right deduction for each selected hinge, clamp, U-channel or header condition
  • Calculating finished glass sizes correctly
  • Locating holes, notches and hinge cutouts before tempering

Why fabrication details matter

Minor mistakes in math or measuring create major problems after tempering because tempered glass cannot be re-cut at the job site. Good fabrication is not only a drafting exercise; it is also a business decision because ordering the wrong piece can delay the job and increase cost.
